چکیده

Myelin specific imaging techniques to characterize white matter in demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS) have become an area of increasing focus. Gray myelination is important marker cortical microstructure, and its impairment relevant progressive MS. However, assessment challenging due thin layers. While myelin water ultra-short TE not yet been implemented assess myeloarchitecture, magnetization transfer (MT) shows promise. A recent development the MT technique, ihMT, has demonstrated greater sensitivity/specificity. Here we a 3D ihMT acquisition analysis gray myeloarchitecture. 20 young healthy volunteers were imaged with ihMTRAGE sequence quantitative metrics (ihMTsat), dual frequency-offset (dual MTsat) calculated. Cortical surface-based ihMTsat MTsat performed compared. We also compared map T1-weighted images (T1w), defined proxy content. maps qualitative agreement previous work T1w map, showing higher values primary cortices lower insula. IhMTsat significantly correlated but regional differences. The ratio ihMTsat/dual highlighted sulci. ihMTsat, metric can be reliably measured unique contrast between regions.

Magnetization transfer from inhomogeneously broadened lines (ihMT): Experimental optimization of saturation parameters for human brain imaging at 1.5 Tesla.

PURPOSE Recently a new MR endogenous contrast mechanism was reported. It allows specifically imaging the magnetization transfer (MT) effect arising from inhomogeneously broadened components of the NMR spectrum, and was hence dubbed ihMT. Such unique NMR lineshape properties are presumably occurring in myelin because of its specifically ordered, multilayered sheath structure. Here, optimization ...

Magnetization transfer imaging of the pituitary gland.

Magnetization transfer (MT) techniques provide tissue contrast which depends mainly on the concentration of macromolecules. The magnetization transfer phenomenon is determined by the restricted macromolecular protons and is quantified by the magnetization transfer ratio (MTR). Since many macromolecular structures are implicated in the secretory activity of the pituitary gland, this imaging tech...

Pathological Assessment of Brain White Matter in Relapsing-Remitting MS Patients using Quantitative Magnetization Transfer Imaging

Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by lesions in the white matter (WM) of the central nervous system. Magnetic resonance imaging is the most specific and sensitive method for diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. However, the ability of conventional MRI to show histopathologic heterogeneity of MS lesions is insufficient. Quantitative magnetization transfer imaging (qMTI) is a rel...

Relationships between cortical myeloarchitecture and electrophysiological networks.

The human brain relies upon the dynamic formation and dissolution of a hierarchy of functional networks to support ongoing cognition. However, how functional connectivities underlying such networks are supported by cortical microstructure remains poorly understood. Recent animal work has demonstrated that electrical activity promotes myelination. Inspired by this, we test a hypothesis that gray...
